Trailer
Pickled is about the burdens of what we inherit, both physically and emotionally, from the people we love, and how sometimes honouring their life can come at the expense of your own. The idea first came to me when I was standing in the house my grandmother had lived for the entirety of her life, as had her parents before her, and I was surrounded by stacks of papers and objects everywhere as if nobody had ever gotten rid of a single thing.
Making of
A major challenge were the puppets, and more specifically how I wanted to push my own abilities further to enable the two main characters to be as emotionally dynamic as possible. I hand-sculpted and painted every part of them myself, with dozens of replacement faces produced to offer every expression that would be required to fully communicate their journey.
